Liz Claiborne is a fashion company started in 1976 in New York by Belgian-born designer Liz Claiborne, her husband Art Ortenberg, and business partners Leonard Boxer and Jerome Chazen. Emerging just as women were entering the workforce in large numbers, the company made a name for itself by offering mix-and-match women's separates grouped into a single collection within the store—a radical concept when it was introduced.
